Margarita Heinsen is one of the founders of My Summer Camp and has been its Director for more than twenty five (25) years. She is largely responsible for developing and organizing the camp’s summer program, which is widely considered as one of the best summer options for young children in the Dominican Republic.
Margarita holds a Doctoral Degree from Universidad de Murcia, Spain and a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College, which she attended as a Fulbright Scholar from the Dominican Republic. She holds a Masters Degree in Education from Framingham State College, and a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Universidad Católica Santo Domingo, in Dominican Republic. Since 1992.
She is currently getting a Masters in Social Emotional Learning from RIEEB.
Margarita has worked as an educator in numerous school and after-school settings, both with children of all ages. In 2000 Margarita became the founder and first Dean of the School of Education at Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), a position she held until 2010. In 2004 she also became Director of the University’s Teacher Development Department and assumed the responsibility for designing and implementing new educational models for the Institution. She is a past President of the Fulbright Alumni Association of the Dominican Republic and has been a consultant for private and public educational institutions. She is currently president of Didactica SRL www.didactica.edu.do and she is the host of the weekly education podcast “Didactica Online”.
Margarita has organized and has been a speaker in numerous workshops and seminars for teachers and parents, abroad and at home. Her first book “Autoestima y Tacto pedagógico” (self esteem in early childhood education) was published by NARCEA Ediciones in Spain.
Working with children is Margarita’s passion. As a camp Director, Margarita arranges staff training, oversees the general operations of the camp and is in charge of planning and designing the schedule and calendar of events – all this to provide an environment consistent with the camp’s goals and values. The camp’s mission is to make children happy, develop their self esteem and teach them to collaborate with others in a safe and caring environment.
